Año de encinas cap... 17 - Transplante de la encina regordota

Muy buenas y Feliz Año! ya son unos meses sin publicar nada y tampoco tendré mucho tiempo de aquí en adelante por diversos motivos que ya dejaré ver en breve, o eso espero. Este trasplante lo realicé allá por el mes de abril y como bien es sabido que las encinas son delicadas esta vez, sabiamente esperé a que hiciera calor, las yemas estuvieran en su punto pero sin pasarse y por supuesto no cometí los errores del pasado lavando raíces. Hi! and happy new year! some months has passed since my last post. I will not have much time in the future either due to differents reason I will let you know son, I hope. In this repottin which I performed on April I tried to do it my best because oaks are quite delicate and especially quercus ilex which love warm time. So for this time I patiently wait for warm weather and buds close to explpode before repotting the tree and not making same mistakes as in the past (as i.e. washing and cleaning roots). Aquí vemos a la encina sobre mi super carro metalico, muy útil para el transporte de árboles pesado y el propio trasplante ya que al ser de rejilla cae la tierra para abajo.

 

Hereunder we can see the oak over the metallic trolley, very useful for heavy trees, and also for repotting because the grill lets remove de soil easily.



 

Este árbol no es para nada pesado, en cualquier caso se desmaceta como siempre y se observa su evolución. A pesar no quita toda la tierra el cambio es evidente. Respecto a la recuperación, aquí la se demuestra una vez más que la cama caliente y el invernadero hicieron el milagro (ojo que con encinas no siempre es así pero ayuda muchísimo).

This tree is not heavy at all, but in any case I remove the plastic pot as always and I had a look on its root development over 3 years. Despite of not removing the soil completly the change is evident. And related to the collecting day, it can be show one more time the power capacity of my heating bed system used with the greenhouse and the miracle came true.

Como se puede aprecia hay un montón de raíces finas, de las buenas, todas muy sanas. No quise escarbar mucho porque esta encina lleva solo 3 años recuperada y como se vio fue a raíz desnuda, con lo cual mi temor era que no hubiera muchas raíces para soportar el trasplante. Además el hecho de tener una poderosa raíz pivotante me hizo cuestionarme esta operación por delicada, pero si quiere llegar a ser un bonsái en maceta relativamente plana no queda otra que abordar la raíz algún día.

As it is shown there are lot of thin root and the rootball is quite compact and sane. I did not want to remove lot of soil because the tree has only 3 years since collecting and that day was without soil. My fear was to not have enough thin roots to pass the repotting without problems. And the fact to have a huge main root make me to question the repotting but in bonsái some risks may be assumed to reach our goals.

Entonces se me ocurrió hacer un semi-trasplante en 2 años, mitad de riesgo, doble tiempo eso si. Consistiría en  envolver el cepellón con film de manera muy prieta para que no se desmorone la tierra y solo recortar la parte sobre saliente de raíz pivotante. Sellar herida y a su nuevo cajón.

Then I make the decisión to perform the operation in 2 times, half risk, but doble time till having the possibility to have the tree in a bonsái pot. I took some plastic film and I roll the rootball with it in such a way the rootball remained tighten enough to not leave the soil fell down. But I left a Little part of the main root. After I sealed the cutting and I planted the tree in its new position and wooden box.

Usar la Bosch keo para este propósito es muy útil, agilidad, precisión y corte muy fino. Recorté unos 6-7cm de raíz.

For this kind of operation the Bosch keo tool is very useful, accurate and good cuttings. I cut about 6-7cm.

Posteriormente se sella la herida y aunque no tengo foto lo podeis imaginar, se quita el fil y a su nuevo cajón.

Afterwards I sealed the cutting, I removed the film and planted the tree.

Parece que el cajón es más grande, y lo es en volumen, pero no en profundidad que era una de mis metas. La siguiente estación es volver a repetir la operación y quitarlo otro tanto, la ventaja que al ser un tronco relativamente grueso la maceta que admitiría sería también relativamente profunda, con lo cual por ese lado hay bastante ganado.

It may seem the box is quite large, and maybe it is in volumen, but not in depth which was one of my goals. Next station is to repeat the operation and remover other root portion. One of this tree advantage is that it allows to plant it and relatively shallow bonsái pot. So, one operation more and the tree will be ready for its first bonsái pot.

En una visita de Marical Yuste de Sagunt Bonsai me aconsejó seguir con el siguiente frente. A pesar de que tiene un poco de pecho de paloma yo creo que puede ser solucionable con unas buenas sesiones de trabajo madera. Pero para ello hay que esperar que las raíces se asienten.

Some time ago Marcail Yuste from Sagunt Bonsai advised me  to continue with the following front face. Despite of some problems in the front face with Deadwood I think can be easily solved with some woodcarving seasons. But before I will wait the root ball takes place in its new box (pot).

Tras un par de semanas en la cama caliente el árbol no se ha resentido y sigue para arriba.

After a couple of weeks over the heating bed the tree did no suffer any problema and started to grow.

Y un par de semanas después comienza reventar por todas las yemas!

And finally a couple of weeks later it started to bud everywhere.

La próxima estación primavera - verano y ya con el árbol colocado en mejor posición se puede trabajar mejor, y se cultivará mucho mejor también. Espero que os haya gustado.

Año de encinas... capitulo 16 El trasplante de la encina mini

Hola, ya tocaba el trasplante de la encina mini. Realmente no ha sido un trasplante sino un hartazgo de tener la mayoría de mis arboles en macetas y cajones. Es verdad que llevaba tres años ahí con lo que renovar el sustrato no le venia mal, pero tampoco es que el sustrato estuviera degradado, de hecho drenaba muy bien. Sin embargo andaba preocupado por las raíces que me encontré en el primer trasplante y que se ven en la segunda foto. Por lo que si este año acometía la poda de esas raíces, en próximos trasplantes me puedo permitir reducir un poco más el tamaño de la maceta. Sobre todo su profundidad. Por lo tanto ha sido un semi trasplante, recortar las raíces exteriores quitando 5cm del perímetro del cepellón, unos 5cm de altura de cepellón y recortar todo lo que pude las raíces que sobresalían del nuevo perímetro. Rellené el hueco con la nueva maceta, nueva capa superficial y listo.

Hi, this is the time for repotting my little oak (quercus ilex). In fact, it was not a real repotting but I was fed up to have most of my trees in huge growing pots, so I wanted some of them in bonsai pots. It is true this oak was in this orange pot for 3 years but soil was good enough and no problem when watering. However I was more or less worried about the rooting ball that I had observed 3 years ago, so if this year I could cut this big roots I could in the future repottings to use smaller pots, especially in depth. So, really it has been a "half" repotting, I only removed about 5cm of root ball and I put the tree on a new pot with a new soil mix.

Esta serían las fotos de las raíces de 2013 en el único trasplante que se ha hecho. En la parte aérea ningún trabajo en 2 años y medio, simplemente se dejó crecer. Como se aprecia las raíces son demasiado grandes para maceta te bonsai y no hay tantas finas como esperaba. Por lo que toca otra maceta de cultivo.

These would be pictures from 2013 in the first repotting of this tree. As you can see any work performed in the foliage, only growing. But roots are too long for small bonsai pot, and even worst not enough small roots as I expected. So another growing pot is needed for a while.

Por aquella época no tenia ni idea de trasplantar quercus así que tal y como lo recuerdo, por entonces cometí algunos errores. Primero trasplantarlo fuera de época. Desde mi punto de vista es crucial hacerlo con calor. Con la brotación apunto de reventar o incluso ya casi abriendo. Las raíces no hay que dejarlas tan al descubierto, si bien no lo lave como hice con otra encina que casi pierdo. Lo que creo que hice bien fue podarla y por supuesto meterla en la cama caliente.

By this time I had not enough idea of quercus repotting so as far as I can remember I made some mistakes, first the repotting season. From my opinion is mandatory to repot quercus with warm weather, just in the moment new buds are developing, even with new leaves close to be out. Second is to not water the root ball, so it is better to leave some soil around the root ball. However I did some things good as for example to compensate the leaves with the roots. Also I used me heating bed for a good root establishment.

A la vista está que durante los siguientes 3 años se ha desarrollado muy bien. Tanto que por años le tocaba trasplante aunque como explico más arriba hubiera aguantado un poco más. Sin embargo empiezan a ser muchos los árboles en cultivo y ya quería tener alguno que luzca un poco.

For the next 3 years the tree grew a lot, the development was really good. so much that in years number I was convinced I had to repot, but the soil was enough good to wait for un year more. But I have to much trees in big containers so I wanted some of them with good looking!

La sorpresa al desmacetar es muy buena, a pesar de todo el abonado de los últimos años el sustrato está muy bien y lleno raíces y con muy buen aspecto.

Fui quitando unos 5cm de perímetro del cepellón y según lo iba haciendo iba flipando de la cantidad de raíces finas desarrolladas. ¿será por las continuas podas y pinzados que he hecho?

Finally, I was removing 5cm around the root ball I was surprised about the small roots developed in las seasons. Could it be possible due the pruning I did?

Y al poco empiezan a aparecer las raíces gorda. Mi miedo era que tuvieran muchas finas en las puntas con lo que al podar perdería mucha ramificación fina, pero para nada, tras inspeccionarlas detenidamente observo que las raíces finas vienen de mil sitios con lo que les corté unos 5m a cada una de ellas.

Finally the long root appeared and my fear was that may be I could not cut them due to their importance in the root system. But I observed the only hade few roots growing and general small roots where coming from everywhere so I cut 5 cm each one.

Lo siguiente ya es sencillo akadama, kyriu y carbon activo para rellenar el hueco. Con un malillo introduje algo de sustrato nuevo en la parte que no había tocado.

Finally and easy, I planted the tree in the new pot and I filled with akadama, kyriu and active carbon. I inserted some new soil inside the root ball.

Estado de la brotación en el momento del trasplante. Siempre es bueno tener este tipo de fotos como referencia para futuros trasplantes de esta planta. Ayudan a conocer cuando y como hay que hacer las cosas si previamente han ido bien.

This is the aspect of the leaves and new buds just when repotting. I always use pictures as guide for next year. It is a good reference for this tree and helps to know when and how I have to the things to avoid any problem if previously everything was fine.

Posteriormente regué con previcur energy para desinfectar el suelo.

Finally I watered with previcur energy to avoid fungus attack.

Esta foto es de mediados de mayo, ahora mismo está muy densa y con la hoja madura... increíble la fuerza de esta mini.

Finally this picture is from half of may, today is even better, with the leaves mature... incredible the strong of this little oak.

Aunque este artículo trata del trasplante, el verde sigue en formación, en la imagen se le ve pobre porque un mes antes se defolió parcialmente (estilo acebuche 2 o 1 hoja por brote) para estimular el retroceso. De esta manera se equilibra a su vez el verde con las raíces que se dejaron.

This post is about repotting, canopy is still in design and shaping, but in the previous pictures you may notice the canopy is poor in leaves. This is because I defoliated the tree (1 or 2 leaves per little branch as we usually do with olive trees) to stimulate the growing of new buds. Also this way we compensate the green side with the root side.

Proxima estación hacer de ella un bonsai, de momento hemos sacado lo máximo, pero si hay un poco más por ahí? Lo veremos!

Next part is to make from it a bonsai, now I think we have obtain the best, but I there is a little more hidden? We will see...

Yoyoprunus - evolucion y diseño

Hola, hoy comenzamos con la evolución del trasplante del yoyoprunus.  Como recordaréis tuve que cortarle un buen pedazo de raíz. Aun con ello apenas cabe en le macetón actual a lo largo (a lo ancho hay sitio de sobra). Le costó bastante brotar y eso que lo hice cuando las yemas estaban apunto de abrir, sin embargo recuerdo que el frio de esos días lo ralentizó un poco. Posteriormente vinieron las olas de calor de mayo y ahí reventó.

TRASPLANTE

 

Este año no lo trabajaré nada hasta el otoño o el invierno y siempre y cuando vea que ha hecho buenas ramas. Se que si lo pinzo hara dos y más brotaciones pero no tengo ninguna prisa, pinzar sin un diseño claro es tontería. Es mejor sentar las bases de las ramas primarias, eliminar las sobrantes y construir con las secundarias.

 

El año que viene será el turno de los pinzados.

 

En cualquier caso ello no quita que tenga que seguir pensando en su evolución mediante el diseño, tener un camino claro es por ello fundamental. Para este año mis objetivos son:

 

• definir un ápice buscando el movimiento que mas se acompase con las curvas del árbol.
• definir una estructura de ramas primarias y secundarias
• conseguir un buen enraizado para futuros trasplantes

Pseudocidonia

Esta pseudocidonia me salió realmente barata. Su anterior propietario sabía que tarde o temprano iba a caer si no la cogía alguien con más tiempo para cuidarla. Me pidió que se la vendiera y después de pensarlo unos días le ofrecí una cantidad y llegamos a un acuerdo.

La compré en semana santa y ya estaba empezando a brotar, incluso ya había abierto algunas hojas y una flor ya asomaba.

Sin embargo y aunque drenaba bien no quería arriesgarme a pasar un verano sin saber como estaban las raíces, si tenía algún hongo, o bicho tenía que verlo ya.

La saqué del tiesto. Aparentemente es japonés pero como no conozco los sellos no sabría decir. Si alguien pudiera ayudarme en este sentido...

Aproveché y la sembré en un tiesto ligeramente mayor en una mezcla de akadama y algo de pómice. También puse mi dosis habitual de carbón de bambú.

La puse en el invernadero frio y hará tres semanas la saqué. Ahora la tengo a plena sombra hasta que madure la hoja. La pondré un poco al semi sombra en cuanto suavice esta ola de calor. Aunque mi intención es que pase el verano protegida.
